Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, candidates must ensure they meet the rigorous eligibility standards set by the commission:
1. Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard (HSC) or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
- Degrees/Diplomas must be acquired before the crucial date mentioned in the official notification.
2. Age Limit
- For Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years.
- For Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years.
- Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for reserved categories (SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years, PwD – 10 years) as per government rules.
Selection Process
The SSC Stenographer selection comprises two major stages:
- Computer Based Test (CBT): An objective type examination consisting of General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks), and English Language & Comprehension (100 marks). There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
- Skill Test in Stenography: Candidates who qualify the CBT will be called for the Skill Test. You will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer.

- Women/SC/ST/PwD/ESM Candidates: Exempted from fee payment.
- Fee can be paid online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit cards.
